Web Accessibility for Content Authors

Accessibility means that people can do what they need to do in a similar amount of time and effort as someone that does not have a disability. It means that people are empowered, can be independent, and will not be frustrated by something that is poorly designed or implemented. Thereby, practicing accessibility allows a greater variety of consumers to obtain information regardless of their individual needs. Visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, and neurological disabilities should be taken into account when implementing accessibility measures.

This Accessibility training is intended for content authors who want to create and design WCAG 2.1 compliant digital content.

Prerequisites

Basic technical knowledge in using a CMS e.g. WordPress, Drupal, SharePoint etc.

Learning Objectives:

After completing this course, you will be able to:

Design and build digital content as per the set legal compliance standards
Understand how people with disability access digital content
Identify and fix common accessibility issues users encounter
Refer to WCAG guidelines in designing and structuring accessible digital content
Design content by using accessible font, format and style.
Understand how to use good semantic structure when creating a web page or documents.
Write appropriate and descriptive titles.
Implement appropriate use of colour and maintain an accessible colour contrast ratio for digital content
Write suitable and explanatory alternative text for images that contain information.
Write descriptive and relevant text for links and buttons.
Make videos accessible by providing text. transcripts, captions and audio descriptions.
Create accessible document formats for digital content.
Conduct basic manual tests to self-evaluate accessibility of created design and structure.
